The term APEDA stands for Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority. Government of India introduced APEDA with the motive to promote export council. In simple words, it is an export promotion council inaugurated in the year 1985 and work as per the provisions and regulations mentioned in the Agricultural and Processed Food products Export Development Authority (APEDA) Act, 1985. It also works in the direction to provide financial aid to the scheduled products and at the same time issue guidelines and provide information pertaining to the progress of those products.
Agriculture plays a crucial role in the Indian economy by contributing to India’s total export and 6 percent to total Industrial investment. Gradually, the agriculture and processed food products industry is moving ahead in the direction of growth and expansion and it only becomes possible because of the government’s policies. Government has drafted policies with the aim to boost agriculture industry by means of soil health cards, facilities available for storage, agricultural infrastructure, and irrigation policies.
It is necessary for all the exporters of the scheduled products to register themselves with APEDA. Any person who wants to obtain APEDA registration has to first apply for the registration of Import Export Code. Make sure to apply for APEDA registration within one month from the date of an undertaking of such export. Also, APEDA registration remains valid till lifetime until Authority decided to cancel it.
The purpose of establishing APEDA (Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority) is to boost the export of the scheduled products. Moreover, the Government of India has drafted certain rules and regulations to efficiently and effectively promote the administration of the APEDA Act, which the government tries to implement through this body.
Government of India has established APEDA (Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority) with the obligation to perform export promotion and development activities of the scheduled products, under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
